Quality
Project: Glasgow Howard Street
Location: Glasgow
Type of Project: New Build
This new multi car park in the city centre of
Glasgow was built by Barr Construction for the innovative car park development
company Q Park.
The project offered USL StructureCare the opportunity to again demonstrate their
ability to take on prestigious new-build projects on a large scale. The job
incorporated coating seven new decks
(six intermediate and one exposed), each
with a surface area of approximately 1600m2.
On the intermediate levels Degussa's Conideck 2260 system was applied. This
system offers many advantages for use on intermediate decks. The top coat is a
solvent free epoxy coating meaning that there are less health and safety issues
to be considered during application. Timeliness is another advantage as the
system is easy to install, yet it still offers high levels of skid resistance,
durability and easiness of cleaning.
On the exposed roof deck the leading Waterproofing System Conideck 2205 was
used. This is BBA approved and is a seamless spray applied crack bridging
system which incorporates a separate waterproofing membrane and wear coat.
The finish of the decks had to comply with the Q Park "House Style" with its
unusual black and grey markings, something which is used to distinguish their
car parks from others within busy cities with increasing demands for high
quality car parks. Q Park is a very discerning client for whom only the best is
good enough.
USL StructureCare operatives have now developed somewhat of a specialisation in
the application of this demanding design and have mastered the technique, in
some cases, by involvement in eight Q Park projects to date.
