Environmental Policy

The safety of our personnel and others who encounter our business operations is our first priority, along with seeing that our business objectives take full account of their impact on the environment.

In addition to the humanitarian aspects, we recognise that good environmental management is essential to the success of the company and make every effort to minimise the impact of our operations on the environment.

As with Health and Safety, Environmental compliance is the responsibility of line management. However, it is appreciated that standards can only be maintained and improved upon through the full commitment of our employees.

It is our aim to have effective systems in place to reduce or recycle waste, prevent pollution and conserve energy.

We will continue to work hard to manage our economic, social and environmental impacts in a positive manner and as such, we aim, by gathering data on our operational practices both on site, within the manufacturing unit and office environment, to understand the impact our activities have on the environment and develop a continuous developing policy.

In striving for continual improvements our aim is to:

  • Ensure that environmental management is an integral part of the company's activities.
  • Allocate sufficient resources to ensure the success of the policy.
  • Promote consultation and co-operation with employees for the benefit of environmental improvement.
  • Comply with Statutory regulations, approved codes of practice and recognised guidelines.
  • To cooperate as a far as reasonably practicable with the Environmental Agencies, our clients and others for the benefit of environmental improvement.
  • Review operational performance and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure that the policy is available to employees.
  • To work with our clients to develop products and processes which will contribute to recycling of natural materials, and reduction in use of energy.
  • To work with our contractors and agents to provide similar protection for the environment as undertaken by ourselves.

To achieve these aims we will:

  • Appoint a Group director with specific environmental responsibilities.
  • Develop and maintain an environmental management system.
  • Ensure that our employees are made fully aware of our environmental policy.
  • Encourage employees to see environmental compliance as a day-to-day issues, which is within their control, and to give them assistance to achieve compliance.
  • Encourage our suppliers and sub contractors to develop and promote similar practice to improve their own environmental performance.

Universal Sealants (UK) Ltd. are currently in the process of gaining approval for ISO14001 standard, which we should have implemented in early 2010.
