Success At London Bridge Station Redevelopment

USL StructureCare has played an important role in one of the country's largest recent construction projects with its Blueshield PmB structural waterproofing system being used on the redevelopment of London Bridge Station.

Over 32,000m² of Blueshield PmB along with 200m of expansion joints has been used to waterproof the external podium decks that surround the station.

The redevelopment of London Bridge station has been named the greatest infrastructure project in London. When the redevelopment of the station is fully complete in 2018, it will boost capacity by 65 per cent with 15 new extra-long platforms, which will be capable of serving up to 18 trains each hour.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said "This transformation included building a new concourse the size of Wembley Stadium: a truly remarkable feat and something which will help ensure our transport network can cope with London's rising population."

USL StructureCare, working in partnership with main contractor Costain and client Network Rail, specified Blueshield PmB having previously used it successfully on several other structural waterproofing schemes in the capital. Developed using Pitchmastic PmB's innovative polyurethane waterproofing technology, Blueshield PmB is a seamless, fully bonded, cold-spray applied system that cures rapidly to form a tough waterproof membrane.

With this important transport hub needing to remain open throughout the redevelopment, podium waterproofing protection that could be applied in phases with no compromise in effectiveness or quality was critical to the station's continued successful operation throughout the works.
