USL is CE Marking Ready

Universal Sealants (USL) has confirmed that its full range of construction products and systems are CE marked in advance of the deadline for mandatory CE marking in July 2013, following significant investments in both additional equipment and laboratory time.

From 1 July it is mandatory for all construction products covered by a harmonised European standard (hEN) to display CE marking. Any products not carrying the CE mark will no longer be eligible for sale within the European Economic Area (EEA).

Under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), which has replaced the Construction Products Directive (CPD), manufacturers are legally obliged to prove that their products are 'fit for purpose'. CE marking demonstrates that a product is consistent with its Declaration of Performance (DoP) as made by the manufacturer.

Carrying the CE Mark marking shows that the construction product will support the compliance of the finished construction works with CPR requirements. These cover:

  • Mechanical resistance and stability
  • Safety in case of fire
  • Hygiene, health and environment
  • Safety & accessibility in use
  • Protection against noise
  • Energy economy and heat retention
  • Sustainable use of natural resources

Andrew Laing, Technical Director stated: "We are pleased to confirm that all required type testing to ascertain product compliance with the designated European specifications has been successfully completed, which has entailed extensive evaluation of a very wide range of products from across the USL group of companies.

"Our QC and QA testing and record keeping procedures were thoroughly audited by BSI before a Certificate of Factory Production Control was issued earlier this year.

"In addition to the time and effort required to complete theses tasks, we have invested significant resources to update all product technical data sheets and labelling to include the relevant additional information to allow the attachment of the CE mark on all products that require it.

"As a result of this exercise, we can now provide our customers with enhanced confidence in the quality and performance of our entire product range.

New equipment installed at USL's laboratories to carry out increased product testing and approval capabilities has included a purpose-built environmental chamber and an infra-red spectrophotometer.

Keeping up with industry standards

Materials are manufactured under the ISO 9001 Quality Management Scheme. All products for use in the repairs and protection of concrete structures are tested in accordance with BS EN 1504, thus providing USL's customers with confidence in the quality and reliability of our specialist product range.
