PmB polyurethane elastomer was approved by the client and design
engineer, Hyder (ACER), to protect the tension mechanism of the
Petra Tou Romiou Viaducts in
The works formed part of the Limassol to Paphos Highway Section
2B project, designed to relieve traffic congestion on this busy
tourist route. The viaducts were
constructed by the incremental launch technique and stand 70
metres above a gorge, each being 420 metres in length.
The use of a sprayapplied elastomer waterproofing system was
considered essential to prevent corrosion in this coastal saline
environment. PmB provided the
optimum solution due to the excellent crack bridging abilities,
high bond adhesion and impermeable properties under extreme
The installation was undertaken in two phases with each viaduct
built in sequence during 2001 and 2002, the total waterproofing
area being 10,000 m 2 .
